Universities and colleges in North America are facing a crunch: in addition to the housing crisis hitting many cities, there is a massive shortage of student housing. Canada is implementing a cap on international students to help, and institutions are fast-tracking developments to hope to catch up with the crunch, like NSCC and their four new buildings which will house 270 students.
In the United States, many universities reduced their student housing due to COVD-19 and still haven’t caught up with demand.
According to a study done by The Hope Center, out of the approximate 20 million college students in the U.S., nearly 50 percent of them were affected by housing insecurity. The situation has made on-campus housing a necessity for many students rather than a choice. Since landlords and property owners know that there’s an increased need for off-campus housing, many of them increased rent prices.

That means there is an opportunity to build properties that students will always want to live in, even when there isn’t a massive housing crisis preventing them from finding an affordable spot off-campus.
To students, Wi-Fi is an amenity just like electricity and heat. And to them, Wi-Fi is binary – it’s either great or it sucks! Students are also used to easily managing devices and being able to get their gaming systems and Internet of Things devices like smart lights online.
Our StudyFi student housing solution gives students an “at-home experience,” giving them the power to add and remove devices from their own private network group. This also keeps all of their devices separate and secure from their neighbours, and it frees up IT staff time. It can overlaid on existing network infrastructure, or we can help build out a brand-new network. This can also be connected to the main university network and campus-wide roaming can be implemented,
